American Lung Association of Texas

Founded in 1908, the American Lung Association of Texas (ALAT) was originally part of the National Association for the Study and Prevention of Tuberculosis, the organization found it increasingly difficult to concentrate on the eradication of tuberculosis without paying attention to related illnesses such as asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema and many other respiratory diseases. It expanded its education and programs goals to include all lung disease and the elimination of the causes of these diseases. ALAT assists families and children with asthma management and care, is an active advocate for clean indoor and outdoor air, and is considered the leading organization in Texas providing smoking prevention and quit smoking programs for young people.
