America’s Promise was founded in 1997, in an effort to make youth a national priority. We work to mobilize people from every sector of American life to build the character and competence of our nation’s youth by fulfilling Five Promises for young people. Through our five promises, we aim to provide young people with ongoing relationships with caring adults, safe places with structured activities during non-school hours, a healthy start and future, marketable skills through effective education, and opportunities to give back through community service. America’s Promise has created a diverse and growing Alliance of more than 400 national organizations called Partners, which make large-scale national commitments to fulfill one or more of the Five Promises.
