Boys & Girls Harbor was founded and opened in 1947 by the Optimist Club of Downtown Houston. Caring for more than two thousand children since opening its doors, Boys & Girls Harbor has long served as a safe haven for children in crisis due to neglect, abandonment, abuse or family hardship. Through its programs, the Harbor strives to help children learn to overcome self-destructive patterns, break cycles of abuse, develop social skills, learn responsibility, and work towards becoming healthy, happy, and productive members of society. Children arrive in need of food, clothing, medical attention and much more. The Harbor offers a stable home environment, complete with caring discipline and counseling aimed at halting patterns of family abuse.
