The Doheny Eye Institute, dedicated to the “restoration, preservation, and improvement of human eyesight,” began in two small rooms at St. Vincent Hospital in 1947. Today, the Institute is an independent, non-profit organization affiliated with the University of Southern California, and has emerged as a world leader in basic and clinical vision research and advanced patient care. Doheny is ranked by US News & World Report among the nation’s top 10 recipients of National Eye Institute grants, which funds 80% of all vision research in America. The Institute’s research programs continually result in new diagnostic and treatment procedures and are respected internationally for the quality of research being conducted.
