Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association

Founded in 1964, two years before the Los Angeles Zoo opened in 1966, the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association assists the City of Los Angeles in establishing, developing, beautifying, and improving the Los Angeles Zoo. The Los Angeles Zoo is located in the heart of the nation’s second-largest city. We continue to improve and provide a more interesting and educational experience for visitors, as well as excellent living conditions for the animals in our care. The Zoo participates in conservation programs to preserve native habitats and ensure that animals can continue to live in the wild. Each year 1.4 million visitors pass through the gates to view a collection of 1,200 animals from around the world.
