The Green Institute was formed in 1993 as an entrepreneurial environmental organization creating jobs, improving the quality of life, and enhancing the urban environment in inner-city Minneapolis. The Green Institute works to create high-quality living wage jobs for residents of the Phillips neighborhood, an area of concentrated poverty and unemployment. What sets us apart from many similar organizations is our emphasis on sustainable community development: development that simultaneously pursues economic, environmental, and social gains. One of the programs the Green Institute operates is called the ReUse Center, a retail store providing quality salvaged building materials.
