Rice University

Founded in 1891 by William Marsh Rice, the mission of Rice University is to provide an unsurpassed undergraduate education in science, engineering, the arts, humanities, and social sciences; to produce internationally distinguished scholarship and research and excellent graduate education in carefully focused areas; and to insure that such an education remains affordable. In addition, Rice maintains the distinctive character of a community of learning that is relatively small in scale and serves the continuing educational needs of the larger community. With a total undergraduate and graduate enrollment of over 4,500 students, Rice prides itself in its size and possibilities for teaching and research excellence across the range of human knowledge.
