Tacoma Art Museum (TAM) has served Puget Sound residents since 1935, and plays a major role as a cultural center for the region. TAM serves the diverse communities of the Northwest through its collection, exhibitions, and learning programs, emphasizing art and artists from the Northwest. Recent exhibitions at TAM include Catalan Masters of the 20th Century; Picasso: Ceramics from the Marina Picasso Collection; Our Nation’s Colors: A Celebration of American Painting; and Inside Out: New Chinese Art. The museum has a permanent collection of Dale Chihuly glass which is always on view. In May 2003, TAM opened the doors to its new 50,000 square-foot home which has approximately 12,000 square feet of exhibition space. The new museum building is nearly double TAM’s existing art-viewing area.
