The House of Ruth, Dothan

Founded in 1982, The House of Ruth provides assistance to battered women and their families from eight counties in southeast Alabama. The House of Ruth operates a 24 hour crisis hotline and maintains a safe shelter with a bed capacity of 17 bed spaces, however no one is ever turned away due to a lack of bed space. One of The House of Ruth’s goals is to increase public awareness about the dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault. The House of Ruth seeks to spread the word, not only that violence does happen but that also that there is a safe place to go!
