United Way of the Capital Area was established as a Community Chest in 1939 by civic-minded leaders in Jackson, Mississippi. Through the past 66 years, United Way has made changes to accommodate the shifting needs of our community. The Mission of the United Way of the Capital Area is to build a caring community that invests its local resources and energies to improve the quality of life for all residents of Hinds, Madison and Rankin counties. Our four focus areas are childcare and youth services; quality, affordable healthcare; quality, affordable housing; and meeting basic needs.
