NAMI

Founded in 1979, the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) is a grassroots, self-help, support and advocacy organization of consumers, families, and friends of people with severe mental illnesses. NAMI is dedicated to the eradication of mental illnesses and to the improvement of the quality of life of all whose lives are affected by these diseases. More than one thousand local affiliates and fifty state organizations provide education and support, combat stigma, support increased funding for research, and advocate for adequate health insurance, housing, rehabilitation, and jobs for people with mental illnesses and their families.
