In 1982, based on a commitment by community leaders to help the increasing number of families requesting food assistance, the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank was formed. The Foodbank is a 30,000 square foot warehouse with over 2,200 square feet in freezer and cooler space, and 6,500 square feet dedicated to the Product Recovery Center. Grocery items that have been damaged at the retail level are inspected and sorted by trained personnel in our Product Recovery Center. Usable items are then distributed to local hunger centers. Helping to Feed People in Need is more than just a motto to us; it’s something we do everyday. It’s a pledge we have made to our community to end hunger in Summit, Stark, Portage, Medina, Wayne, Holmes, Tuscarawas and Carroll counties.
