Bread for the City

Founded in 1976, Bread for the City provides vulnerable residents of Washington, DC with comprehensive services including food, clothing, medical care, legal, and social services in an atmosphere of dignity and respect. We promote the mutual collaboration of clients, volunteers, donors, staff, and other community partners to alleviate the suffering caused by poverty and to rectify the conditions that perpetuate it. Each month we serve more than 10,000 people – elderly, disabled and families – and each year 3,250 people select more than 160,000 articles of clothing from our clothing rooms. The medical clinic sees over 2,000 patients. The legal clinic carries a caseload of 250, while Social Service caseworkers see 1,150 clients annually.
