Dane County Humane Society

The Dane County Humane Society, founded in 1921, provides care for stray and unwanted animals, investigates reports of animal cruelty and neglect, and provides education concerning care of animals to Madison, Wisconsin. Dane County is the primary area of service for the Society. Our new shelter has 30% more space to house animals than our old shelter. It is difficult to estimate how many animals come to the shelter daily, but we handled over 6,500 animals in 2003. An estimated half are stray animals, the other half surrendered.
