In 1995, the food bank in Concord merged with the food bank in Solano County and formed the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano. The Food Bank works to alleviate hunger by providing an efficient, centralized and coordinated system for collecting and distributing food that reduces food waste and increases public awareness regarding hunger and food security issues. Toward this end, the Food Bank solicits donations of food, purchases staple foods not normally donated in sufficient quantities, and distributes emergency and supplemental food to people in need and to local Food Bank-member, nonprofit, charitable agencies.
