Established in 1978, Friendship Trays delivers over 700 meals daily to elderly, handicapped, and convalescing people who are unable or greatly restricted in their ability to prepare or secure meals and who reside within the area designed to be served. Each recipient receives a hot lunch. A Friendship Tray is much more than a balanced meal: It is life for someone, caring for someone, it is an opportunity to see that individuals’ needs are met; it is being a friend. The recipients of these meals are obviously grateful for these meals in a practical sense. However, Friendship Trays also provides them with a sense of independence, a feeling of dignity, good health, and a smile from a friendly volunteer that cares, each day.
