Gulf of Maine Research Institute

Established in 1968, the Gulf of Maine Research Institute (GMRI) is guided by a three-part mission: Educate: teach Maine residents and visitors about the Gulf of Maine and its watershed; Convene: provide a neutral forum in which diverse marine interests can discuss, research, and resolve aquatic resource conflicts; and Research: support marine research in the Gulf of Maine and its watershed. GMRI aspires to emerge as an innovator in a new genre of research and education institution that combines extensive strategic research capacity with a high volume public interface. The outcome will be a unique marine research enterprise and a public that is engaged and well-informed about marine science and the Gulf of Maine ecosystem.
