Houston Parks Board

The Houston Parks Board was created in 1975 to contribute to the city’s parks system through a private organization that would respect the needs and desires of Houston’s major foundations and civic leaders. The Houston Parks Board works to assist the city of Houston Parks and Recreation department in maintaining, improving, beautifying and creating parks and recreation areas within the city of Houston. Since its inception, the Houston Parks Board has played an instrumental role in the acquisition of more than 15,000 acres in park land. Funded in a variety of ways – and located in a variety of areas throughout the city – the Houston Parks Board will continue to work toward the addition of quality park land for the use of all Houstonians.
