Founded in 1937 as the Animal Protection Association of Lima, we changed our name to Humane Society of Allen County when we opened our state-of-the-art shelter on Elida Road in May 2000. The Humane Society of Allen County is dedicated to the elimination of cruelty, abuse, neglect and abandonment of animals. The Society shelters animals in time of need, locates lifelong homes and promotes responsible pet ownership through education, legislation and sterilization. We strongly feel the need to maximize the available resources of the Society towards ending the overpopulation of homeless companion animals in Allen County. We will accomplish this through education, spay/neuter programs and innovative adoption education.
