Since 1953 we have been providing refuge and help to the animals of Indian River County. The Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County operates the county’s only animal shelter and aids over 6,000 animals annually. No animal young, old, domestic or wild, homeless, lost, ill or injured is turned away. The society provides shelter and care for every animal that comes to the Shelter; animal rescue for the sick, lost or cruelly treated. The adoption center provides health screening, and pre-adoption sterilization; lost and found helps reunite pets and people and offers free ID tags. We also offer pet sterilization assistance; behavior counseling; humane education; care cadets; foster care; grief counseling, pet therapy and disaster relief.
