The Institute of the Americas, founded in 1983, is an independent institution at the University of California, San Diego. The Institute of the Americas strives to be a significant catalyst for promoting development and integration, emphasizing the role of the private sector, as a means to improve the economic, political, and social well-being of the people of the Americas. Latin America’s community, energy, information and communication technologies, science journalism, project Mexico, sustainable development, health, and water sectors form the core of the Institute’s programs. Through its annual high-level hemispheric conferences and some 15 executive roundtables across Latin America, the Institute facilitates effective communication between public sector reformers and private sector companies in these areas.
