Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties (SHFB) is a private organization that collects and distributes more than 27 million pounds of food each year to low-income children, adults and seniors. Formed in 1974, SHFB currently serves an average of 163,500 individuals each month; nearly 60% are families with dependent children. SHFB works to rally community resources to assist people who are hungry in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. SHFB is a certified member of America’s Second Harvest, a network of food banks and food distribution programs in the United States.
