Special Olympics Indiana provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in over 21 Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, offering them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. Nearly 12,000 children and adults in Indiana train and compete through local, county and area programs. Special Olympics Indiana focuses on the development of community-based programs such as Athlete Leadership Programs (ALP’s) and Special Olympics Unified Sports, in each county, in order to increase the number of athletes involved.
