The Nature Conservancy

Founded in 1951, The Nature Conservancy is a leading international organization dedicated to preserving the diversity of life on Earth. We work to preserve the plants, animals and natural communities that represent the diversity of life by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive. We have developed a strategic, science-based planning process, called Conservation by Design, which helps us identify the highest-priority places–landscapes and seascapes that, if conserved, promise to ensure biodiversity over the long term. The Nature Conservancy has five priority conservation initiatives to address the principal threats to conservation at the sites where we work, focusing on fire, climate change, freshwater, marine, and invasive species.
